SASA is proud to have Tim James speak about the history of South African wine – from 1658 right up to now – by considering what grape varieties were planted when. There’s a bit more to it than that, of course, but he breaks down the history into four periods and gives each of them a varietal name and flavour:

The age of muscadel; The age of semillon (greengrape); The age of cinsaut and chenin blanc; The age of cinsaut and chenin blanc revisited. This event will be more of a lecture than we usually have, but it will be accompanied by some brilliant wines that illustrate the varietal theme.
